Abstract

Corrosion is the degradation of metal quality due to electrochemical reactions to the environment. The process of carnation includes the electrochemical process, Fe metals act as anode and oxygen dissolved in water present on the iron surface acts as a cathode. Cathodic protection is one way that many people use in corrosion control, one of the methods used is Impressed Current Cathodic Protection (ICCP) method that uses backflow to withstand the rate of corrosion. This research uses ICCP method. Research materials are API 5L pipesteel as cathode and graphite anode. There were two variables that used, the first is coating two layers and without coating and the second is anode geometry variation of the long cylinder shape, short cylinder shape, and cube shape. The pipe has a length of 1.5 m, with a diameter width of 0.0508 m while the anode has a respective surface area of 142 cm2, 132 cm2, and 162 cm2. The measurement that is needed were of protection current and protection voltage, and pH and soil resistivity measurements to determine other factors that may affect ICCP system. The pipe provided by the coating treatment tends to require a smaller protection current than the uncoated pipe 18-22 mA. Meanwhile, the anode having a large surface area, tends to output a large maximum output current as well as anode C which requires a current protection current of only 6 mA
