Abstract

=================================================================================================== Ship resistance is one of the main factors that can affect the design of a ship. Basically ship hull is made as efficient as possible, so that the need for power to propel the ship can be obtained as small as possible. With the acquisition of a small power requirement it affects the economic value of a vessel during operation. Efforts to reduce the ship resistance are carried out with proper design on the hydrodynamics and propulsion. In order to suppress ship resistance value for efficient delivery of vessels, one attempt is to add a stern flap. The author conducted a scientific study on the effect of adding stern flap that aims to reduce ship resistance value using the Computer Fluid Dynamics (CFD) method. The study was conducted by modelling a hull planing chine axe bow type patrol boat. Next add a stern flap model with size variations based on ship length (Lpp), Breadth Transom (BT) and angle. Variations of speed also done at the time of testing at the speed of 15 knots, 20 knots, and 30 knots. From the analysis of each model of stern flap variations, acquired the stern flap model with the lowest resistance value that is on Stern Flap model 3 which has dimension of Chord length 1.5% LPP (0.57 m), Span width 100% BT (5.651 m) and 0°Angle slope. The analysis result shows that the greatest reduction of resistance values up to 2.87% occurred at the speed of 15 knots from 47.211 kN (Bare Hull Ship Model) to 45.854 kN (Stern Flap Model 3).
