Abstract
Indonesia merupakan salah satu negara yang memiliki sumber daya alam yang melimpah, termasuk bahan tambang, salah satunya yakni nikel. Hasil olahan nikel yaitu feronikel, merupakan bahan baku pembuatan stainless steel, yakni pelapis besi anti karat. Sampai saat ini masih banyak ditemui berbagai permasalahan terkait pengiriman feronikel. Kurangnya perhatian terhadap hubungan antara kapasitas armada kapal dengan jumlah muatan hasil produksi tambang, khususnya feronikel menyebabkan biaya transportasi menjadi acak dan tidak ekonomis. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui perbandingan biaya dan keekonomisan antara moda transportasi laut yaitu kapal bulk carrier, kapal general cargo dan kapal self – propeller barge untuk melayani permintaan selama 5 (lima) tahun mendatang. Penggunaan metode optimasi dengan biaya pengiriman optimum sebagai kriteria utama serta pemenuhan permintaan akan memberikan solusi moda transportasi yang sesuai. Berdasarkan hasil optimasi, moda transportasi kapal bulk carrier merupakan moda yang optimum dengan optimum cost untuk pengiriman feronikel dengan unit cost sebesar Rp 524.735,93, sedangkan jika menggunakan kapal general cargo dan self – propeller barge menghasilkan unit cost sebesar Rp 549.168,18 dan Rp 583.118,20.

Indonesia is one country that has abundant natural resources, including mining materials, one of which is nickel. Nickel processed product ferronickel, is a raw material for making stainless steel, ie anti-rust iron coating. Until now there are many problems encountered related to the delivery of ferronickel. Lack of attention to the relationship between the capacity of the ship's fleet to the amount of cargo produced by the mine, especially ferronickel causes the transportation cost to be random and uneconomical. This study aims to determine the ratio of cost and economics between the sea transportation modes of bulk carrier, general cargo and self-propeller barge vessels to serve demand for the next 5 (five) years. The use of optimization method with optimum delivery cost as the main criterion as well as fulfillment of demand will provide suitable transportation mode solution. Based on the optimization result, bulk carrier vessel transportation mode is the optimum mode having optimum unit cost for delivering ferronickel is Rp 524.735,93, whereas if using general cargo vessel and self – propeller barge produces unit cost Rp 549.168,18 and Rp 583.118,20 respectively.
