Abstract

Garbage is one of the main problems in Indonesia. According to the Direktorat Jenderal Pengelolaan Sampah, Limbah dan B3 KLHK (2016) the total amount of plastic waste is estimated to reach 9.52 million tons or 14 percent of the total waste. Only 5 percent of the waste is actually recycled. On the other hand, the government targets to build 258 km of new roads and 5,000 km of national road improvement in several regions in Indonesia. In road construction, HRS is one type of pavement that is normally used for light-medium traffic. There are two types of HRS, HRS-wearing courses and HRS-base. This final project aims to overcome these problems by developing innovation of modified asphalt with the addition of PET plastic waste, analyzing and evaluating the plastic mixture against HRS (WC) in terms of Marshall characteristics.
This research was conducted with several stages. The material test is carried out to determine whether the material used meets the specifications or not. The material test is divided into 2 ie Asphalt Test and Aggregate Test. PET that has been chopped (50 x 50) mm mixed in hot asphalt. The PET and HRS mixing methods use the wet method.
The results obtained from this research is that with the addition of PET plastic on Lataston Lapis Aus causes an increase in Stability value by 44%, VIM by 99%, and Marshall Quotient by 150%. However, there was a decrease in the flow rate by 23%. And can reduce the cost budget by 1.3%.
