Abstract

================================================================================================
Propeller is one of the main tools that functions to move the ship. with the working principle of making a difference in pressure on the face and back of the propeller leaves. Because of the difference in pressure on the blade, the propeller can cause cavitation which can produce vibration / vibration and excessive noise. Besides being able to increase the level of corrosion in the cavitation hull, it also causes noise that can disrupt the marine ecosystem with sounds that disturb the hearing of marine biota. This sea noise has been regulated by an international maritime organization, IMO (international maritime organization) which has limited the value of noise in the sea. noise can interfere with marine life because the food chain process in the sea is disrupted due to noise that disturbs marine life. therefore the ship classification agency (IACS) regulates the rules regarding propeller design to minimize cavitation. Cavitation is caused by many things, for example from improper designs and incorrect operations. Because the propeller rotation that exceeds the design of the propeller will cause propeller cavitation.
This study aims to find out the noise of propellers which are immersed in water where sound frequencies originating can propagate through water. Propeller testing is done with variations in RPM and variations in the distance between the microphone and the noise source, namely propeller. The function of the RPM variation is to find out the value of propeller noise in each round. In propeller noise testing it is done in water using a tool in the form of underwater sound catchers, namely hidrophone and recorded using the Adobe Audition application which is controlled using a notebook. The noise tester that is done in the water is by means of a propeller being rotated by rotation with 10 variations of rotation namely 400, 450, 500, 600, 650, 700, 750, 800, 850 RPM. Round settings are controlled using a regulator (speed control). And measured by tacho meter by measuring the electric motor shaft. The first data retrieval is done at a distance of 40 meters by recording propeller noise at that distance on the laptop using the Adobe Audition application. After data collection then the hydrophone is sheared according to the variation of distance specified.
In this test the noise on the propeller increases when the putter on the propeller is increased based on the planned variation of the rotation. This is seen in the graph of noise testing results that the noise value at 400 RPM rotation is lower compared to the rotation at 600 even at 800 RPM. In addition, propeller cavitation is 3% to 28%. Based on the graph the results of testing on cavitation can add noise to the propeller. Because when cavitation occurs there is a bubble of air that can add noise frequency. In addition, when the propeller cavitation means that the propeller is working abnormally, this can cause vibration.
