Abstract

Abu layang merupakan limbah industri yang paling banyak dihasilkan oleh pembangkit listrik berbahan bakar batu bara. Penggunaan abu layang pada teknologi geopolimer merupakan solusi alternatif untuk mengurangi dampak negatif dari limbah industri. Pada penelitian ini disintesis geopolimer berbahan dasar abu layang dari berbagai sumber diantaranya, PLTU Holcim, Paiton 1-2, Ketapang, dan Wilmar. Sintesis geopolimer dilakukan dengan dua metode yaitu metode non impregnasi dan impregnasi, perbedaan metode tersebut berpengaruh pada setting time, dimana metode impregnasi memberikan setting time yang lebih cepat. Sebelum digunakan abu layang diuji beberapa karakteristiknya menggunakan instrumen XRD, XRF, ICP, SEM dan PSA. Pada sintesis ini dilakukan variasi waktu geopolimerisasi yaitu 7, 14, dan 28 hari. Hanya terdapat dua sumber abu layang yang berhasil disintesis menjadi geopolimer yaitu abu layang PLTU Holcim dan Paiton 1-2. Hasil uji kekuatan tekan tertinggi diperoleh geopolimer berbahan dasar abu layang PLTU Holcim dengan nilai kuat tekan sebesar 36,6 Mpa. Selain itu dilakukan juga uji pH terhadap geopolimer, hasil uji tersebut menunjukan bahwa geopolimer berada pada rentang pH sebesar 12,17-12,88.

Fly ash is the most industrial waste produced by coal-fired power plants. The use of fly ash in geopolymer technology is an alternative solution to reduce the negative impact of industrial waste. In this study, geopolymers based on fly ash were synthesized from various sources including Holcim PLTU, Paiton 1-2, Ketapang, and Wilmar. Geopolymer synthesis was carried out with two methods, namely the non impregnation and impregnation method, the difference in the method affected the setting time, where the impregnation method provided a faster setting time. Before being used fly ash was characterized using XRD, XRF, ICP, SEM and PSA instruments. In this synthesis, geopolymerization time variations are 7, 14 and 28 days. There are only two sources of fly ash which were successfully synthesized into geopolymers, namely fly ash from Holcim and Paiton PLTU 1-2. The highest compressive strength test results obtained geopolymers based on fly ash Holcim PLTU with compressive strength of 36.6 Mpa. In addition, a pH test on geopolymers was also carried out, the test results showed that geopolymers were in the pH range of 12.17-12.88.
