Abstract
Baja AISI 1020 merupakan baja karbon rendah dengan kadar karbon 0,20%. Sebelum baja diaplikasikan biasanya dilakukan pengerjaan akhir logam (metal finishing) untuk meningkatkan kualitasnya seperti sifat tahan korosi, tampak rupa, ketangguhan, daya hantar listrik, dan sifat lainnya. Salah satu cara metal finishing yaitu dengan elektroplating. Elektroplating dengan bahan pelapis seng banyak diaplikasikan karena seng merupakan pelapis baja yang tahan korosi, menghasilkan tampak permukaan yang cukup baik, serta harganya yang cukup terjangkau. Berdasarkan uraian di atas penulis menganalisa pengaruh temperatur dan waktu proses elektroplating seng terhadap ketebalan, kekuatan lekat, dan ketahanan korosi baja AISI 1020. Variasi temperatur yang digunakan yaitu 25, 30, dan 35oC. Sedangkan untuk variasi waktu yaitu 9, 12, dan 15 menit. Pengukuran ketebalan lapisan seng dilakukan menggunakan alat uji DFT, untuk mengetahui kekuatan lekat dilakukan pengujian Pull-Off, dan untuk mendapatkan nilai laju korosi dilakukan dengan pengujian immerse dan dilakukan perhitungan dengan metode weight loss. Nilai ketebalan paling tinggi sebesar 28,1333 µm dengan variasi temperatur 35oC dan waktu 15 menit. Nilai kekuatan lekat paling tinggi sebesar 15,595 MPa dengan variasi temperatur 25oC dan waktu 9 menit. Nilai laju korosi paling rendah sebesar 0,0097 mmpy dengan variasi temperatur 35oC dan waktu 15 menit.

AISI 1020 steel is low carbon steel with a carbon content of 0.20%. Before the steel is applied it is usually done metal finishing to improve its quality such as corrosion-resistant properties, appearance, toughness, electrical conductivity, and other properties. One way of metal finishing is by electroplating. Electroplating with zinc coating material is widely applied because zinc is a corrosion resistant steel coating, producing a fairly good surface appearance, and the price is quite affordable. Based on the description above, the influence of temperature and time of zinc electroplating process on thickness, adhesion, and corrosion resistance of AISI 1020 steel was studied. Temperature variations to be used are 25, 30, and 35oC . While for time variations are 9, 12, and 15 minutes. The measurement of the thickness of the zinc layer was carried out using a DFT test, to find out the strength of the pulling carried out Pull-Off testing, and to obtain the value of the corrosion rate carried out by immersion testing and then calculated using weight loss method. The highest thickness value is 28.1333 µm with variation of temperature is 35oC with 15 minutes plating time. The highest adhesive strength value is 15.595 MPa with a temperature variation of 25oC and 9 minutes plating time. The lowest corrosion rate value is 0.0097 mmpy with a temperature variation of 35oC and 15 minutes plating time.
