Abstract

Methylene Blue is one type of dye used in the textile industry. In their use, waste of textile plants can cause water pollution and impact for health is very dangerous. This study was conducted to degrade toxic dyes namely Methylene Blue using semiconductor composite material ZnO/reduced graphene oxide that purposed to analyzing the influence of 3%, 6%, and 9% graphite oxide addition to the photocatalytic properties of this composite for Methylene Blue degradation. The graphite oxide was synthesis by modified Hummers methods. ZnO/reduced graphene oxide was successfully synthesized using hydrotherman reduction method. From XRD result it was found that reduced graphene oxide at 2θ=26° peak was formed. The crystal structure of ZnO was hexagonal wurtzite at the highest peak at 2θ=35.8°. The FTIR result showed that hydroxyl groups increase in graphite oxide during the oxidation process and the peaks that disappeared during the reduction process. The SEM result showed ZnO microspeheres morphology and reduced graphene oxide in the form of a thin layer, Its maximum photocatalytic result was obtained on 9% ZnO/rGO material by reaching 94% degradation.
