Abstract
Wilayah Surabaya Timur memiliki beberapa perguruan tinggi. Mahasiswa yang menimba ilmu diperguruan tersebut berasal dari berbagai daerah di Indonesia, sehingga diperlukan hunian bagi mahasiswa yang berasa dari luar Kota Surabaya. Kebutuhan akan hunian meningkat akibat dari meningkatnya perantau yang datang ke Kota Surabaya. Kos umumnya tidak terlalu memperhatikan kenyamanan dan kebutuhan penghuninya, sehingga mengurangi interaksi antar penghuni kos. Permasalahan dalam merancang bangunan kos adalah bagaimana penghuni bias memiliki ruang privasi yang nyaman namun juga terdapat ruang untuk berinteraksi yang memadai. Kota Banyuwangi merupakan salahsatu destinasi wisata di Indonesia. Jl. Mawar merupakan jalur utama yang dilalui oleh wisatawan yang ingin berlibur. Potensi ini dimanfaatkan untuk membangun homestay sebagai tempat istirahat sementara bagi wisatawan yang datang. Dilahan yang sama klien juga menginginkan rumah tinggal. Hal tersebut menjadi tantangan tersendiri, yakni bagaimana rumah tinggal memiliki privasi dan aktivitas homestay tidak menganggu rumah tinggal.

The East Surabaya area has several universities. Students who study in the college come from various regions in Indonesia, so that housing is needed for students who feel from outside the city of Surabaya. The need for occupancy increased due to the increase of migrants who came to the city of Surabaya. Kos generally does not pay too much attention to the comfort and needs of its residents, thereby reducing interaction between boarders. The problem in designing boarding buildings is how residents can have a comfortable privacy space but there is also adequate space for interaction. Banyuwangi City is one of the tourist destinations in Indonesia. Jl. Mawar is the main route traveled by tourists who want to vacation. This potential is used to build a homestay as a temporary resting place for tourists who come. In the same area the client also wants a residence. This is a challenge in itself, which is how the house has privacy and homestay activities that do not disturb the house.
