Abstract

1,068 units of various sized fiberglass reinforced plastic (FRP) vessels built by the government through the program of the Direktorat Jenderal Perikanan Tangkap (DJTP) in 2017 to support the fisheries sector in Indonesia. Some FRP fishing vessels built by the shipyard have used core materials as sandwich construction materials. However, the price of the core material used has a fairly expensive price. So in this research Waru wood core material and bamboo blades is used as construction materials alternatives for Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic (FRP) fishing vessels. To find out whether the core material complies with the standards required by the Indonesian Classification Bureau (BKI), it is necessary to test the specimens. This test includes the tensile test and bending test with several variations in the thickness of the core material. The results of testing several variations of the thickness of core FRP materials were analyzed technically to obtain tensile strength, modulus of rupture (MoR), modulus of tensile elasticity and modulus of bending elasticity values. Variations that use core bamboo blade material meet the criteria for mechanical properties required by BKI with an average tensile strength value of 118.98 MPa, an average modulus of rupture (MoR) of 216.63 MPa, an average modulus of tensile elasticity of 8.46 GPa and an average modulus of bending elasticity of 8.76 GPa. While variations with Waru wood as core material do not meet the criteria of mechanical properties required by BKI with an average tensile strength value of 82.03 MPa, average modulus of rupture (MoR) of 141.07 MPa, modulus of tensile elasticity averaged 4.76 GPa and modulus of bending elasticity averaged 3.28 GPa. Then these sandwich lamination variations are used as a basis for calculating material costs, so that the correlation of mechanical properties with the cost of building the FRP 10 GT fish boat with sandwich construction is obtained. The most economical cost of building the FRP 10 GT fish boat in this research is the variation that uses bamboo blade core material with a total cost of Rp120.427.230 , 16.17 % cheaper than the core cost of PVC material. Whereas variations using Waru wood core material have a total cost of Rp130.153.650 , 9.40 % cheaper than the core cost of PVC material.
