Abstract

Shipping industry is considered as one of major global gas emission factor. In order to pursue shipping with lower gas emission and less cost operation, air lubricated system on a ship’s hull has been developed throughout the world. Air lubricated system works by reducing the skin friction. In this study, a towing experiment of an Offshore Supply Vessel model complied with microbubble generator is conducted to investigate the drag reduction. A ship’s model and array-holes plate bubble generator spesifically made to accomodate the needs of the experiment. 33,49% maximum drag reduction is attained in this study and a further calculation shows the power reducted is bigger compared to added power due to compressor installment.
