Abstract
‘Jengki’ adalah istilah yang digunakan untuk menyebut gaya arsitektur modern eksentrik asli Indonesia yang populer pada tahun 1950-an, lahir dari semangat penolakan terhadap gaya arsitektur kolonial di Indonesia, yang merupakan peninggalan dari masa penjajahan, dan telah beredar hampir di seluruh penjuru Indonesia. Menurut penelitian Residensi Jengki Madura, seasli-aslinya sifat arsitektur Jengki justru muncul di daerah Madura, Jawa Timur. Namun tidak banyak literatur yang membahas tentang arsitektur Jengki, termasuk Jengki Madura, sehingga keberadaanya kurang diketahui oleh masyarakat. Bahkan gaya arsitektur Jengki luput dari penulisan sejarah seratus tahun arsitektur modern Indonesia yang didokumentasikan dalam Tegang Bentang, sebuah buku yang dibuat oleh Pusat Dokumentasi Arsitektur Indonesia. Data primer penelitian didapatkan dengan metode depth interview dan observasi. Depth interview dilakukan kepada pihak Residensi Jengki Madura sebagai stakeholder utama, juga kepada beberapa pemilik bangunan Jengki Madura. Observasi dilakukan pada tiga bangunan rumah dan eks-gudang milik juragan tembakau Madura yang berlokasi di desa Prenduan dan Kapedi, Sumenep. Tahapan observasi sekaligus merupakan tahapan yang bertujuan untuk mendapatkan dokumentasi pada objek penelitian untuk keperluan konten visual pada perancangan yang dilakukan. Target utama pada perancangan ini adalah mahasiswa arsitektur, juga praktisi maupun penikmat arsitektur. Hasil dari perancangan ini adalah buku visual arsitektur, berisikan pembahasan umum dan khusus pada gaya arsitektur Jengki Madura yang meliputi sejarah, makna, latar belakang pemilik, serta kajian arsitektural termasuk denah dan pembahasan detail fasad, atap, kanopi, pintu, jendela, dan rooster pada bangunan. Informasi tersebut disajikan dalam sebuah konsep buku visual arsitektur yang selain berfungsi sebagai buku referensi atau bahan belajar, juga sebagai media penyebaran yang efektif dalam memperkenalkan gaya arsitektur Jengki Madura agar lebih dikenal oleh masyarakat luas sehingga tidak menjadi pengetahuan yang eksklusif. Penggunaan elemen visual fotografi dan ilustrasi akan membantu menarik minat audiens untuk memahami informasi sehingga pengetahuan ini lebih mudah diterima.

'Jengki' is a term used to refer to the eccentric style of modern Indonesian architecture that was popular in the 1950s, born of the spirit of rejection of the colonial architectural style in Indonesia, which is a relic of the colonial period, and has circulated almost all over Indonesia . According to the Jengki Madura Residency study, the original nature of Jengki architecture actually appeared in the Madura area, East Java. However, there is not much popular literature that discusses Jengki architecture, including Jengki Madura, so that its existence is not known by the public. Even the style of Jengki architecture escapes the writing of a hundred-year history of modern Indonesian architecture documented in Tegang Bentang, a book made by the Indonesian Architecture Documentation Center. The primary data of the study was obtained by the method of depth interview and observation. Depth interviews were carried out to the Jengki Madura Residency as the main stakeholder, also to several Jengki Madura building owners. Observations were carried out on three houses and ex-warehouses owned by Madura tobacco bosses located in Prenduan and Kapedi villages, Sumenep. The stages of observation are also stages that aim to obtain documentation on the object of research for the purposes of visual content in the design. The main target in this design is architecture students, as well as practitioners and architecture lovers. The results of this design are visual architectural books, containing general and specific discussion on the Jengki Madura architectural style which includes history, meaning, owner's background, and architectural studies including floor plans and detailed discussion of facades, roofs, canopies, doors, windows, and rooster in building. This information is presented in an architectural visual book concept which in addition functions as a reference book or study material, as well as an effective media for introducing the Jengki Madura architectural style so that it is better known to the wider community so that it does not become exclusive knowledge. The use of visual elements of photography and illustrations will help attract audience interest to understand information so that this knowledge is more easily accepted.
