Abstract

Merkuri yang digunakan dalam proses amalgamasi pada tambang emas rakyat seringkali mencemari tanah maupun badan air di sekitar lokasi tambang. Hal ini terutama disebabkan oleh penanganan tailing mengandung merkuri yang tidak benar. Kolam tailing yang ada seringkali dibiarkan hingga penuh dan meluap sehingga mencemari lingkungan di sekitarnya. Kandungan merkuri dalam tailing tambang emas rakyat Kulon Progo, DI Yogyakarta mencapai 302,31 mg/kg. Tailing dari kegiatan pertambangan dikategorikan sebagai Limbah B3 Kategori 2 menurut Lampiran I PP No 101 tahun 2014 tentang Pengelolaan Limbah B3. Upaya pengolahan terhadap limbah B3 yang dihasilkan perlu dilakukan yaitu melalui teknik Stabilisasi/Solidifikasi (S/S) menggunakan semen Portland dan tanah tras. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menentukan komposisi antara semen portland dan tanah tras serta komposisi antara binder dan tailing yang digunakan dalam proses S/S. Tailing diambil dari lokasi tambang emas rakyat Kulon Progo. Pengambilan sampel tailing dilakukan pada kolam tailing dengan kedalaman pengambilan 10 cm dari permukaan sedimen. Benda uji dibuat menggunakan cetakan kubus dengan ukuran tiap sisi 5 cm. Variasi komposisi antara semen Portland dan tanah tras adalah 100:0; 90:10; 80:20; 70:30; 60:40; 50:50; 40:60; 30:70; 20:80 dan 10:90. Sedangkan variasi komposisi antara binder dan tailing yaitu 50:50; 40:60; 30:70; 20:80 dan 10:90. Kualitas benda uji diukur melalui uji kuat tekan dan uji Toxicity Characteristic Leaching Procedure (TCLP). Baku mutu hasil uji TCLP menurut Lampiran IV PP No 101 Tahun 2014 sebesar 0,05 mg/L. Baku mutu kuat tekan untuk limbah B3 menurut Keputusan Kepala Bapedal No. KEP-03/BAPEDAL/09/1995 sebesar 10 ton/m2 atau setara dengan 1 kg/cm2. Komposisi antara semen Portland dan tanah tras ditetapkan 40:60 dengan nilai kuat tekan yang dihasilkan sebesar 260 kg/cm2. Komposisi antara binder dan tailing ditetapkan pada komposisi 50:50 dengan nilai kuat tekan 92,4 kg/cm2 dan hasil uji TCLP kurang dari 0,21 mg/L. ========== Mercury, which is used in artisanal gold mining activity, has often contaminated soil and water body near the mining site. The main cause was the improper tailing handling. Tailing of artisanal gold mining in Sangon, Kulon Progo, contained 302,31 mg/kg of mercury. The tailing pools have frequently become overload and caused the mercury to flow over the land. Tailing from this mining activity is classified as hazardous and toxic waste of category 2 according to Appendix I of Government Decree No. 101/104 concerning Hazardous Waste Management. In order to manage the tailing residue properly, it is necessary to apply stabilization/solidification (S/S) method. This research was aimed to determine best composition of portland cement and trass soil in the S/S process of the tailing residue. Besides, the composition between binder and tailing which produced best performance in the S/S process was examined. Tailing residue was collected from artisanal gold mine in Kulon Progo. Samples were collected from tailing pools up to 10 cm depth. Mortar was made using 5x5x5 cm specimen mould. Mixtures of portland cement and trass soil as binders were made using 100:0; 90:10; 80:20; 70:30; 60:40; 50:50; 40:60; 30:70; 20:80 and 10:90 variatons. Whereas variations of binder and tailing compositions were 50:50; 40:60; 30:70; 20:80 and 10:90. Quality of the S/S product was examined using compressive strength and Toxicity Characteristic Leaching Procedure (TCLP) tests. According to Appendix IV of Government Decree No. 101/2014, the maximum allowable value of TCLP test result is 0,05 mg/L. Whereas, that of the Head of Environmental Impact Control Agency (BAPEDAL) Decree No. KEPiv 03/BAPEDAL/09/1995, stipulates the minimum value of compressive strength standard of 10 tonnes/m2, or equals to 1 kg/cm2. Best performance of the S/S product was observed in portland cement and trass soil composition of 40:60, which resulted in a compressive strength value of 260 kg/cm2. Proper composition of binder and tailing was decided to be 50:50, which resulted in a compressive strength value of 92,4 kg/cm2 and TCLP result value of less than 0,21 mg/L.
