Abstract
Perhatian global dewasa ini sebagai pengaruh pemakaian
refrigeran, tidak hanya masalah kerusakan ozon (ODP) dan efek
pemanasan permukaan bumi (GWP), tetapi juga mencakup pada masalah
efisiensi energi. Bersamaan dengan faktor ODP dan GWP, diupayakan
alternatif pengganti refrigeran halo-karbon yang dapat meningkatkan
penghematan energi. Telah diketahui bahwa pemborosan energi dengan
meningkatnya pembangunan pembangkit tenaga listrik untuk
memenuhi kebutuhan tenaga listrik, peningkatan pemakaian bahan bakar
minyak, secara signifikan memberikan kontribusi pada peningkatan
pemanasan bumi melalui efek rumah kaca.
Data penelitian kali ini didapatkan dengan melakukan pengujian
pada peralatan sistem refrigerasi di laboratorium pendingin dan
pengkondisian udara, dengan menguji performa sistem refrigerasi
cascade menggunakan intermediate tipe PHE yang menggunakan
refrigeran MC22 di high stage dan R407F di low stage. Kemudian
menghidupkan kompresor HS dan LS sampai kondisi steady state, lalu
mengatur variasi laju pengeluaran kalor pada kondensor dengan
mengatur kecepatan aliran udara fan yang melalui kondensor yaitu mulai
dari kecepatan 1, 2, 3, 4, 5.
Hasil yang didapatkan dari performansi studi eksperimen ini
adalah dengan bertambahnya laju pengeluaran kalor pada kondensor
high-stage, temperatur dan tekanan kondensor high-stage semakin kecil.
Hal ini mengakibatkan kapasitas refrigerasi, dan koefisien prestasi akan

semakin naik. Pada variasi kecepatan fan tertinggi 2,8 m/s, coefficient of
performance sistem sebesar 1.6998, kapasitas refrigerasi sebesar 1,3383
kW, heat rejection ratio sistem sebesar 1.5883, temperatur evaporator
LS sebesar , dan temperatur kabin terendah sebesar
, dan nilai effectiveness alat penukar kalor tipe plate heat
exchanger sebesar 95.93%.

Refrigerant selection regarding to its global warming potential
(GWP) and ozone depletion potential (ODP) value is not the only global
attention we are facing in the past few decades. Another problem like
energy conservation is one of the factor that deserves global attention.
As a solution for this problem, refrigerants with low GWP and ODP
which allow user to conserve more energy like hydrocarbons have
started being used globally as substitutes. Energy conservation is crucial
because the increasing energy waste will force human to build more
power plants which will increase the demand of fuel. This increasing
demand and use of fuel however, will result in the increasing of global
temperature, known as global warming.
This research is conducted by running several test on a
Cascade refrigeration system in Cooling and Air Conditioning
Laboratory in order to check its performance. The system uses
intermediate type PHE with MC22, a hydrocarbon refrigerant at high
stage and R407f at low stage. At the beginning of each test, both low and
high stage compressors are turned on until the system runs at steady
state. After the system is already running at steady state, heat rejection
rate at high stage condenser is controlled by changing the condenser fan
speed from speed one to five.

The result from this research is the temperature and the
pressure at high stage condenser are both decreasing as the heat
rejection rate is increased. Together with the decreasing pressure and
temperature of the condenser the refrigeration capacity and coefficient
of performance are both increasing. With the highest fan speed
variation, 2.8 m/s, the coefficient of performance of the system is 1.6998,
the refrigeration capacity is 1.3383 kW, the heat rejection ratio is
1.5883, low stage evaporator temperatyre is - , refrigerator box
temperature is , and the PHE effectiveness is 95.93 %.
