Abstract

Pertumbuhan jumlah penduduk serta pergeseran gaya hidup atau life style di
kalangan masyarakat modern akan terus meningkatkan laju konsumsi masyarakat. Hal
ini akan mengakibatkan semakin bertambahnya volume sampah yang dihasilkan.
Sedangkan pengelolaan sampah yang umumnya dilakukan saat ini adalah
menggunakan sistem open dumping (penimbunan secara terbuka) serta tidak
memenuhi standar yang memadai. Keterbatasan lahan tempat pembuangan akhir
(TPA) sampah di kota besar dan metropolitan juga berpotensi menimbulkan persoalan
baru.
Dari uraian tersebut diatas, dibutuhkan suatu fasilitas pengolahan sampah di
TPA Kabupaten Gresik, untuk menangani persoalan sampah yang setiap saat terus
bertambah volumenya. Dibutuhkan suatu wadah yang mampu secara mandiri
mengelola sampah yang dihasilkan oleh penduduk Kabupaten Gresik serta
meningkatkan nilai ekonomis bahan buangan sekaligus menghindari penurunan
kualitas lingkungan akibat aktivitas pengolahan sampah yang umumnya terjadi di
sekitar lingkungan TPA.
Konteks desain yang diambil adalah memberdayakan suatu produk buangan
seperti sampah hingga menjadi bernilai ekonomi. Maka objek desain yang dibutuhkan
adalah sebuah fasilitas Tempat Pengolahan Sampah yang bisa memberdayakan
sampah menjadi bernilai ekonomi.

Population growth with lifestyle shifting among modern people will rise the
consumption rate continuously. The impact is in the trash volume that is being
produced by those people. While the waste management generally done using the
open dumping system (stockpiling openly) with inadequate standart . The scarcity for
TPA land in the big city and metropolitan might create another problem.
From the explanation above, it can be concluded that Gresik need a waste
management facility which can handle the waste problem every time the trash volume
rise . It need a container working independently in managing the waste produced by
the Gresik citizen that also able to increase the economy value of waste and avoid the
decrease of environment quality as consequence of the waste management activity
that commonly happened in TPA and its surrounding.
The design context is to empower the waste product like trash until it has
economy value. Therefore the design object which is needed is a facility of waste
management place ( TPA ) that can change trash into something that more valuable
economically.
