Abstract

SPM CALM Buoy is an offshore structure operated to aid loading / unloading
crude oil to be distributed. In Indonesia, SPM CALM Buoy was operated in
shallow water to bridge between the tanker to transit to fuel terminal on shore.
The differences of characteristic for shallow water intermediate and deep water
direct to the need for analysis of the impact of depth water variation te the
performance of CALM Buoy. Results of motion analysis on ship in free floating
condition in regular and random wave shows the surge, sway and yaw are
influenced by depth variation, while heave, roll and pitch influenced by wave
frequencies. For CALM Buoy, all mode of motion are influenced by the depth
variation. Result of analysis for moored condition, indicated that the tension on
the mooring line and offset at CALM Buoy influenced by variation in depth and is
not affected by tension from the vessel. The deeper the waters, the value of
tension and offset are greater. At a depth of 21 m to 42 m the Pre-tension 10% of
MBL is used, whereas at a depth of 50 m Pre-tension 15% of MBL is used,
because for initial pre-tension by 10% MBL is not able to accommodate the
motion of CALM Buoy. It is found that the load of the second order wave have
more influence on the moored structure like CALM Buoy.
