Abstract
Produk garam industri merupakan produk yang sangat dibutuhkan bagi beberapa pelaku industri dalam negeri, baik sebagai bahan baku maupun sebagai bahan tambahan. Sebagai contoh, di dalam industri klor-alkali, garam digunakan sebagai bahan dasar dalam pembuatan gas klorin, soda kaustik, dan berbagai produk lainnya. Untuk memenuhi kebutuhan garam, impor Indonesia semakin naik dari tahun ke tahun. Jenis garam yang diimpor adalah garam industri. Indonesia saat ini telah mampu memenuhi kebutuhan garam konsumsi dalam negeri. Namun, kebutuhan garam industri masih belum dapat dipenuhi melalui produksi dalam negeri sehingga pemenuhan kebutuhan garam industri dalam negeri masih mengandalkan impor. Melihat adanya peluang pasar garam industri dalam negeri, dirancang pabrik garam industri dengan kapasitas 40.000 ton/tahun dengan bahan baku garam rakyat. Pabrik direncanakan mulai dikonstruksi di Kabupaten Bangkalan, Jawa Timur pada tahun 2021. Metode yang digunakan untuk mengubah bahan baku garam rakyat menjadi garam kualitas industri adalah metode pencucian.Proses meliputi pengecilan ukuran guna mempermudah pencucian. Wet mill dipilih untuk melakukan pengecilan ukuran karena dihasilkan garam yang lebih halus. Selanjutnya, pencucian dilakukan dengan beberapa alat, yaitu: screw washer, mixing tank, hydrocyclone, dan elutriator. Prinsip kerja elutriator adalah tangki fluidisasi countercurrent di mana garam turun oleh gravitasi di dalam tangki dan brine dialirkan berlawanan arah ke atas. Garam kemudian dilewatkan centrifuge, dikeringkan, lalu dikemas. Pabrik garam industri berbentuk perseroan terbatas dengan kebutuhan bahan baku garam rakyat sebesar 52.631 ton/tahun. Pabrik memerlukan 72 karyawan dengan total investasi senilai Rp. 41.458.246.039 dan total biaya produksi Rp. 129.648.656.066. Perkiraan hasil penjualan untuk kapasitas pabrik 100% senilai Rp. 144.000.000.000 per tahun. Analisa ekonomi menunjukkan internal rate of return (IRR) senilai 19,30%, pay out time (POT) 4,1 tahun, dan break even point (BEP) 44,3% sehingga pabrik layak didirikan.

Industrial salt is a highly needed product to many local industries. It is used as main feedstock and as additional chemical. For example, in the chlor-alkali industry, industrial salt is used as the main feedstock for creating chlorine gas, caustic soda and other chemicals. In response to this high demand, Indonesian import of industrial salt is increasing yearly. While Indonesia has been self-sufficient in meeting the national demand for table salt, industrial salt is still sourced for national consumption via import. Responding to this high demand for industrial salt, an industrial salt plant is designed with capacity 40.000 ton/year using harvest salt as feedstock. The plant is planned to start construction in 2021 at Bangkalan Regency, East Java. Method chosen to produce industrial salt is washing. The process starts with size reduction to ease washing process. Wet mill is chosen because it results in finer product. Washing is then done through several equipments, which are: screw washer, mixing tank, hydrodcyclone and elutriator. Elutriator is a countercurrent fluidization tank in which salt falls gravitationally and brine is flowed countercurrently from
bottom-up. Salt is processed with centrifuge, dried and packaged. The plant is a limited corporation with 52.631 ton/year intake of harvest salt. A total of 72 people is employed with total capital investment of Rp. 41.458.246.039 and total production cost of Rp. 129.648.656.066. If plant is at 100% capacity, estimated sales is Rp. 144.000.000.000 per year. Analysis results in internal rate of return (IRR) of 19,30%, pay out time (POT) of 4,1 years and break-even point (BEP) at 44,3%, showing that the plant designed is economically feasible.
