Abstract

Based on data from the Social Security Agency (BPJS) in 2018 employment, work accident cases in the construction industry experienced an increase of 40.6% from 123,071 cases recorded in 2017 to 173,105 cases in 2018, meaning that there was a significant increase in workplace accidents. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the relationship between total safety management, safety culture, and safety behavior on project safety performance in the Gedubg construction project in East Java. In this study data collection was carried out by distributing questionnaires to staff and managers at the project site at the contractor company who were working on building construction projects, respondents were practitioners with at least 1 (one) year experience in building construction projects in 4 districts/cities, namely Surabaya, Sidoarjo, Malang, and Nganjuk. Sampling is done by purposive sampling, then the analysis used is the Structural Equation Model-Partial Least Square (SEM-PLS) method to analyze the relationship between variables as a measurement tool. The results of this study indicate a significant relationship that total safety management influences safety culture and safety behavior to improve safety performance, but the direct relationship does not show significant results, therefore total safety management needs to be mediated with the safety culture and safety behavior variables to influence significant on safety performance in the project environment.
