Abstract

A bone implant is a medical device made of metal that is implanted in the body. The function of the implant is to replace the structure and function of the bone. This study aims to determine the corrosion rate of SS 316 L specimens and ST 41 steel coated by Nickel Chrome (NiCr) with variations of immersion in 12 hours, 168 hours, 240 hours and 336 hours. SS 316 L is a bone implant material that is often used today. Types of tests conducted in this study include Potentiodynamic Polarization (PDP), Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS), Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), and Scanning Electron Microscope Energy Dispersive X-Ray (SEM-EDX).The test results showed the same pattern of corrosion rate in both specimens when soaking variation for 168 hours. The highest corrosion rate was obtained in the ST 41 specimen coated with Nickel Chrome (NiCr) with a value of 0.024665 mm / year and the lowest corrosion rate was at SS 316 L with a value of 0.0013166 mm / year on a 336 hour immersion variation.
