Abstract
Pertumbuhan industri kreatif selalu meningkat setiap tahunnya. Berdasarkan siaran pers Menteri Perindustrian (2015), pada tahun 2014-2015 tercatat pertumbuhan industri kreatif meningkat 7%. Pertumbuhan ini didominasi oleh beberapa sektor industri, salah satunya yaitu produk kerajinan dengan pertumbuhan ekspor tertinggi sebesar 11.81%. Industri kerajinan kayu Jati memiliki potensi yang besar dengan luas area hutan Jati mencapai 1.5 juta hektar di pulau Jawa. Selain diolah dari kayu log, kini limbah kayu Jati turut menjadi perhatian para pelaku industri kerajinan karena bahannya yang melimpah dan sayang jika dibuang mengingat kayu Jati merupakan kayu yang berkualitas tinggi. Berbagai teknik pengolahan kayu seperti penggergajian, bubut, dan ukir dapat diterapkan pada produk-produk kerajinan kayu Jati. Berdasarkan penelitian yang dilakukan oleh Sukmawhan & Purwanti (2008), kayu Jati memiliki peluang untuk diolah dengan teknik bending, yaitu dengan teknik penguapan. Untuk mengimplementasikan teknik bending, terutama pada material dengan dimensi kecil seperti limbah kayu Jati, dibutuhkan beberapa penelitian dan eksperimen untuk mengetahui perlakuan yang tepat untuk mengaplikasikan teknik tersebut dengan hasil yang optimal. Penelitian yang dilakukan meliputi tiga poin penting, yaitu memahami sifat-sifat material kayu Jati, memahami proses teknik bending dan puntir, dan memahami tren dan ketertarikan konsumen pada produk kerajinan kayu Jati. Pada akhir penelitian ini dihasilkan beberapa alternatif bentukan bending yang akan diterapkan pada limbah kayu Jati: single bending, double bending dan puntir. Jenis produk yang didesain yaitu: lampu meja, lampu dinding, jam meja, dan vas bunga.

The growth of the creative industries is increasing every year. Based on the press conference of Industrial Minister (2015), in 2014-2015 was recorded growth of creative industries increased by 7%. This growth is dominated by some industrial sectors, which one is handicraft products with the highest export growth, 11.81%. Teak wood craft industry has a great potential with teak forest area reached 1.5 million hectares in Java island. Besides processed from logs, teak wood waste now become attention by craft industry because the material is abundant, and so pity if it discarded meanwhile teak wood is high quality material. Many of manufacture techniques such as sawmill, lathe and carving can be applied to handicraft teak product. Based on research conducted by Sukmawhan & Purwanti (2008), teak has a chance to processed by bending techniques, that is steam techniques. To implemented the technique of bending, especially in materials with small dimensions such as teak wood waste, it takes some more research and experiments to understand the appropriate treatment to applying these techniques with optimal result. The research was conducted on the three important points, understanding the properties of teak wood materials, understanding the process of wood bending and twisting techniques, and understanding the trend and consumer interest in the products of craft teak. At the end of this study generate several alternative shape of bending will applied to the teak wood waste: single bending, double bending and twisting. And the products that will designed: table lamp, wall lamp, table clock, and vase.
