Abstract

This final project discusses the experimental study of the free decay test of roll motion on the catamaran floating crane structure in terms of free floating and moored conditions. Experiments were carried out at the Maneuvering and Ocean Engineering Basin (MOB) facility owned by the Hydrodynamics Technology Center - BPPT. The structure used as an experiment is a catamaran floating crane model with a scale of 1:36. At the time of testing, a horizontal mooring line system was used with a configuration of 8 mooring ropes installed at 4 fairled points. From the experimental mooring system modeling, spring stiffness is used as a reference for mooring rope modeling in numerical analysis. The analysis carried out in this final project is to compare the experimental results of the decay test with the results of the analysis using Moses software. From the experimental results, the comparison of free floating to moored conditions for each decay test was 38%, 8%, and 9% for the linear damping value, then 93%, 12% and 13% for the damping quadratic value. Comparison of experimental results to numerical results obtained the greatest difference for the decay 1 test against the numerical found in the damping quadratic value for free floating conditions of 128.39%, then in the decay 2 test and the decay 3 test on numerical the greatest difference was the linear damping value of the moored condition namely 60.80% and 66.83%.
