Abstract
Industri mobile game di Indonesia memiliki pendapatan mencapai USD 1,1 miliyar pada 2018, namun sebagian besar masih dikuasai oleh pengembang asing. Hal ini adalah peluang penetrasi pasar dengan mengangkat tema budaya Indonesia sebagai nilai jual. Salah satu waralaba lokal yang disukai pasar adalah komik digital “Sarimin” bertema mitos nusantara yang diterbitkan LINE Webtoon. Waralaba “Sarimin” terbukti diminati pasar karena telah memiliki 400 ribu pelanggan, hal ini menjadi peluang untuk mengadaptasi “Sarimin” ke bentuk media lain berupa mobile game dan memperluas segmen pasarnya. Berdasarkan fenomena tersebut, dirancanglah mobile game adaptasi komik “Sarimin” bertema makhluk mitos nusantara.
Metode yang digunakan yaitu studi literatur, observasi terhadap peninggalan fisik bersejarah, studi eksperimental, depth interview dengan pengembang game, prototyping, dan testing terhadap target audiens. Seluruh hasil penelitian kemudian digunakan untuk membuat konsep desain "Discovering The Mythical Creatures" dimana player akan menjelajahi level dan diperkenalkan dengan makhluk mitos Indonesia beserta kisahnya yang berkaitan dengan cerita dari komik digital “Sarimin” dengan gameplay adventure-platformer.
Luaran dari perancangan ini adalah mobile game bergenre adventure-platformer yang memiliki alur cerita baru namun masih dalam satu dunia yang diadaptasi dari komik “Sarimin” sehingga dapat diikuti oleh audiens lama maupun baru. Game ini memiliki fitur reward berupa album ensiklopedia makhluk mitos nusantara yang didapat pemain sepanjang perjalanan. Game ini berhasil disukai pengguna karena presentasi visual dan jalan cerita yang menarik, serta dapat memberikan informasi mengenai makhluk mitos nusantara yang memiliki citra horror menjadi lucu dan menghibur melalui dialog antar karakter dan gaya gambar super-deformed.

The mobile game industry in Indonesia had revenue reaching USD 1.1
billion in 2018, but most of it is still dominated by foreign developers. This is an
opportunity for market penetration with the theme of Indonesian culture as a selling
point. One of the local franchises favored by the market is a digital comic
“Sarimin” with the theme of Indonesian myths published by LINE Webtoon. The
“Sarimin” franchise has proven to be of great interest to the market because it
already has 400 thousand subscribers, this is an opportunity to adapt “Sarimin” to
other forms of media like mobile games and expand its market segment. Based on
this phenomenon, a mobile game adaptation of the franchise "Sarimin" with the
theme of Indonesian mythical creatures was designed.
The methods used are literature study, observation of historical physical
heritage, experimental studies, depth interviews with game developers,
prototyping, and game testing. All research results are then used to create a design
concept "Discovering The Mythical Creatures" where players will explore the
levels and be introduced to Indonesian mythical creatures and their stories related
to stories from digital comic "Sarimin" with adventure-platformer gameplay.
The output of this design is an adventure-platformer mobile game featuring
new storyline but is still in the same universe adapted from “Sarimin” franchise, so
both old and new audiences can follow the story. This game has a reward feature in
the form of an encyclopedia album of Indonesian mythical creatures that players
collect through their journey. This game is successfully liked by users because of
the visual presentation and interesting storyline. It also can provide information
about Indonesian mythical creatures—which typically have horror images—in a
funny and entertaining way through dialogue between characters and superdeformed drawing styles.
