Abstract

After World War II, there was an increasing human population (from 10 million to 6 billion people), increasing the need for shelter and food. The application of residential development and the green revolution to increase the amount of food creates problems in the balance of the hydrological cycle. Air is exploited every day for agriculture, but cannot be reproduced because the pathways are blocked by habitation. This damage to the hydrological cycle certainly threatens the sustainability of life in the environment. For that, we need an innovation related to the concept of housing and land that is friendly and can improve and maintain the sustainability of the hydrological cycle. One of the possible concepts to improve and maintain the hydrological cycle is the concept of permatecture. Where this concept allows humans to live in harmony with nature. This design concept takes place in Ds. Gandri, Ngawi, East Java. This village experiencing a water crisis due to population growth and agriculture that continues to develop. Through this design, the hydrological cycle is applied sustainably by designing the buildings in this residential complex according to the hydrological cycle components. The buildings in this residential complex function as rain components, filtration components, run-off components, evaporation components, condensation components, and advection components. The application of the hydrological cycle will make water not only continuously taken from nature, but the water in this residential complex will be reprocessed so that it will create a residential complex that is independent in meeting water needs. With this design concept, it is hoped that the hydrological cycle in the residential complex can be maintained.
