Abstract

Indonesia merupakan negara dengan berbagai macam kebudayaan. Kepercayaan masyarakat terdahulu terhadap hal-hal gaib melatarbelakangi kebudayaan-kebudayaan tertentu, seperti arwah leluhur, makhluk mitologi dan sejenisnya. Latar belakang tersebut menciptakan folklor yang beredar di lingkungan masyarakat. Pada zaman kultur modern, folklor dengan tema horor mistis diadaptasi pada berbagai media storytelling dengan membuat jalan cerita yang dapat menarik audiens dan aspek yang mendukung untuk membangun pengalaman audiens.
Salah satu media yang digunakan untuk wadah storytelling adalah komik. Pada mssa sekarang, media komik dapat berbentuk digital seperti pada platform LINE Webtoon. Komik dengan genre horor di Webtoon memiliki penggemarnya tersendiri. Namun, masih belum sebanyak penggemar komik dengan genre drama atau komedi sehingga jumlah komik horor di Webtoon masih kalah dengan genre lainnya. Hal ini dikarenakan konten dalam komik horor Indonesia masih kurang menarik audiens.
Melihat peristiwa tersebut, penggunaan media modern seperti platform Webtoon dapat menjadi alternatif untuk mengangkat folklor dan sejarah kebudayaan Indonesia supaya dapat lebih dikenal terutama di kalangan generasi muda. Pada penelitian ini, penulis mengangkat folklor dan asal-usul kebudayaan dari suku Betawi karena masih belum banyak dieksplorasi dan diangkat menjadi komik Webtoon. Konsep dari cerita komik ini adalah horor supranatural yang melibatkan arwah dan makhluk halus dan peceritaan melalui pengalaman tokoh utama.

Indonesia is a country with various cultural heritages. The faiths and beliefs among ancient society towards supernatural beings have developed the background of certain cultures such as spirit of ancestors, mythological creatures, and others.This background develops folklore which circulating among society. In modern culture age, folklores with horror theme are being adapted into various storytelling media by creating storyline which able to attract audiences and establishing audiences’ experience.
One of forms that can be used as storytelling medium is comic. In this age, comic is available in digital form such as LINE Webtoon. Comic with horror genre in Webtoon has such large and certain audiences. However, the number of audiences of horror genre is still not as many as audiences of drama or comedy genre hence the number of horror comics in Webtoon platform is still quiet few. That problem is caused by the contents of Indonesia horror comics which is still not various enough.
Observed from that phenomena, the usage of modern media such as Webtoon platform can be an alternative to carry up folklore and Indonesian cultural history so it can be more recognized especially among the younger generation. For this research, the researcher adopt folklore and cultural origins from Betawi ethnic because it’s still not largely explored and adapted to Webtoon comic. The concept of the comic will be supernatural horror story which involves spirits and ghosts throughout the main character’s experience.
