Abstract

As traditional markets dominate Indonesia's trading activities, market demand from the main destination countries is likely to decline. Indonesia's plan to diversify its export market requires identification of potential export destination countries to encourage exports to non traditional markets. Indonesia chose Kenya as the location for concrete trade cooperation. Therefore, it is necessary to study the competitiveness and economic factors of the two countries. This research uses competitiveness analysis, particularly the Trade Complementary Index, Export Product Dynamic Index, and Relative Purchasing Capacity Index, as well as a gravity model approach with variables such as economic distance, export prices, Indonesia's GDP, and export volume. The purpose of this study is to identify economic factors, the level of complementarity, and the level of demand for Indonesian commodities that meet Kenya's imports. The data is processed using panel data regression with the gravity model and the competitiveness index on the 20 Indonesian-Kenyan commodities recorded on the trademap, with the top ten commodities for each country from 2012 to 2021. According to the findings of this study, the economic distance to export value is not significant effect. Economic distance, on the other hand, will have a negative impact on the value of exports. Export prices have a small but significant positive effect on export values. Indonesia's GDP has a slightly positive effect on the value of exports. Export volume will have a significant positive effect on export value
