Abstract

Based on the geological map of Surabaya, the ITS campus is located in a thick layer of sediment which has the potential to cause amplification of the soil with long periods of seismic waves. In general, seismic waves with long periods can cause a ground amplification effect that has a greater impact on high-rise buildings than low-rise buildings. The purpose of this study was to determine the natural period and damping ratio in several buildings at ITS with microtremor analysis, from the information obtained, natural period and damping ratio can be used as one of the parameters for disaster mitigation when an earthquake occurs. The research was conducted in four buildings at ITS, namely the Physics building, Science Tower, Research Center, and Seatrans with a data recording time of about 30 minutes in each building. Microtremor data processing uses Horizontal to Vertical Spectral Ratio (HVSR) method to determine the natural period or frequency of the soil in the ITS environment, while the Floor Spectral Ratio (FSR) and Random Decreement Method (RDM) methods are used to determine the fundamental period and damping ratio for each building. The results of data analysis show that Physics building, Science Tower, Research Center, and Seatrans have natural periods of 0,38 – 0,52 seconds, 0,43 – 1,28 seconds, 0,41 – 1,24 seconds, and 0,54 – 0,62 seconds respectively. Furthermore, RDM shows that the damping ratio for the Physics building, Science Tower, Research Center, and Seatrans shows 1,81 – 2,30 %, 1,61 – 3,19 %, 0,84 – 3,48 %, and 1,62 – 2,73 % respectively. The results of the damping ratio analysis shows that Physics, Science Tower, Research Center and Seatrans buildings meet national and international building standards, especially Australia, Japan, and Italy. Resonance index analysis was also carried out by comparing the natural period of soil and buildings. The analysis shows that the Physics and Seatrans buildings have a low resonance index, while the Science Tower and Research Center buildings have a medium resonance index
