Abstract

The port is one of the defining factors in a region's economic development, therefore choosing the port's location is one of the industry's attempts to control the largest market by increasing sales while attempting to reduce transportation/distribution expenses. The appropriate distance between ports on the same island can be standardized, allowing for the reduction of transportation costs as well as measurement of this distance. The technique utilized in this analysis is non-linear programming optimization with the aid of the solver tool in Microsoft Excel with the goal of identifying options that result in the lowest prices and turnaround times. The analysis' findings revealed the ideal separation between ports within in order to control the largest market area by maximizing the same island is 290 km if measured from port 1 to port 2, but if measured from port 3 to port 2 it is 258 km for export and import activities to and from the Port of Shanghai, Port of Los Angeles, and Port of Tokyo with the resulting logistical benefits, the port is one of the determining factors in the economic progress of a region.
