Abstract

Stroke patients usually experience disability, especially motor impairment in the upper extremities and loss of hand function or can be referred to as hemiplegia. Both of these can be partially restored by undergoing rehabilitation. One way of post-stroke rehabilitation is with a robotic exoskeleton. To control the exoskeleton many PID controllers are used. Manual adjustment of three PID parameters using the manual method is a time-consuming process and difficult to achieve good results. The parameters obtained will not necessarily be suitable when used for other patients with different conditions ranging from weight to muscle stiffness. So this research focuses on an exoskeleton control system that is capable of automatic tuning to obtain optimal parameters. To achieve adaptive capability, the gain of the PID controller will be updated every iteration using the gradient descent method. The purpose of gradient descent is to obtain the optimal parameter value that minimizes the error. The input that will be entered into the controller or the thing to be controlled is the angle. The obtained results indicate that the controller has succeeded in tuning its parameters to get good results and maintain stable system performance. An optimal adaptation constant of 0.001 was obtained with an RMSE of ± 1°. A safe speed range was obtained to be tested on the subject, namely from 1 cm / sec to 4 cm / sec where the normal subject test used 4 cm / sec. From testing on the subject, the weight of the subject, the ROM given and the torque will affect the change in Kp. RMSE was obtained with a range of 0.998° to 1.069°. It can be seen that there is no significant increase in RMSE even though it is affected by subjects with different weights and different ROMs as well as the torque of the subject
