Abstract

Grey water is wastewater from domestic activities like bathing, washing, laundering and dishes washing from kitchen. Mostofall of grey water enter the water body without previous treatment. Wetland is a kind of treatment that use natural resourceslike soil and sandy soil as medium with in the process occurs, plants and microorganisms as decomposer. Previousstudies have shownthat grey water can be treated by wetland which planted by cattail (Typha angustifolia) and canna-lilies (Canna sp.). Aim of research wasto study the performance of subsurface flow constructed wetland with variable of plant, cattail and canna-lilies; the geometric shape of wetland construction, rectangular and rectangle; detention time in reactor, 1 day and 6 hours in order to decrease the concentration of COD, TS and detergent (LAS) in grey water. Rectangular reactor had dimension in length, width and depth were I m; 0.3 m; 0.5 m; and rectangle were 0.55 m; 0.55 m; 0.5 m. Sand was used as medium with 0.4 m in depth and the system had continuous flow. The observation washeldfor 8 days. The highest removal of TS were by medium 52.81%; cattail 1.23%; canna-lilies 4.58%. The highest removal of COD were by medium 57.79%; cattail 13.83%; canna-lilies 14.06%. The highest removal ofLAS were by medium 56.56%; cattail 20.86%; canna-lilies 21.07%. The highest removal efficiency of COD, LAS were 72%; 68% in rectangular reactor planted by cattail in one day detention time. The highest of removal efficiency of TS was 56% in rectangle reactor planted by canna in one day detention time. Higher removal efficiency of TS, COD, LAS were 52%; 65%; 48% in rectangle reactor planted by cattail in one day detention time.
