Abstract
Kinerja dan prestasi Unit Kegiatan Mahasiswa (UKM) di Kampus ITS kerap kali mengalami pasang surut, yang diantaranya disebabkan oleh proses regenerasi yang kurang baik serta fasilitas yang kurang mendukung. Gelanggang Mahasiswa Kampus ITS Surabaya merupakan suatu objek bangunan yang berfungsi sebagai tempat berkumpul sekaligus mewadahi kegiatan kemahasiswaan khususnya ko-kurikuler di Kampus ITS Surabaya. Gelanggang Mahasiswa ini merupakan bangunan semi public dimana mayoritas pengguna objek ini nantinya adalah subjek yang berkepentingan dan memiliki izin atas regulasi yang ada. Berdasarkan pendekatan karakter yang disampaikan dari filosofi logo ITS dengan tujuan dari objek ini, maka Wijaya Kusuma dijadikanlah sebagai tema dari objek rancang Gelanggang Mahasiswa ini. Proses perencanaan dan perancangan objek Gelanggang Mahasiswa ini memerlukan pertimbangan yang komprehensif, karena objek ini memiliki kemajemukan dalam kebutuhan ruangnya, dimana masing-masing bidang Unit Kegiatan Mahasiswa (UKM) di ITS membutuhkan fokusan dan konsentrasi yang berbeda. Oleh karena itu, agar kebutuhan-kebutuhan tersebut dapat terwadahi secara maksimal, salah satu kuncinya adalah penataan ruang. Seni menata ruang juga akan mempengaruhi aspek-aspek yang terkait terhadap tata ruang tersebut, contohnya adalah sistem struktur, utilitas, bahkan kenyamanan. Tujuan yang akan dicapai dari proses rancang ini adalah diperolehnya sebuah gagasan objek rancang yang mampu mewadahi dan menjadi tempat yang dapat mengembangkan potensi-potensi mahasiswa khususnya dalam hal minat bakat, sehingga karakter dan kualiatas civitas akademika ITS semakin terbentuk dan semakin kuat.

Performance and achievement of Student Activity Unit (UKM) in ITS Campus often have ups and downs, which are caused by poor regeneration processes and facilities that are less supportive. ITS Campus Student Center is building an object that serves as a gathering place at the same time facilitate the activities of co-curricular student especially in ITS Campus. The Student Center is a semi-public buildings where the majority of users of this object is a subject that will interest and have the license for the existing regulations. Based on the approach presented character of philosophy ITS logo with the purpose of this object, then the “Wijaya Kusuma” is choosen as object design theme of this Student Center. The process of planning and designing this Student Center requires a comprehensive consideration, because it has a plurality of objects in space requirement, where each field of the Student Activity Unit (UKM) in ITS requires focuses and different concentrations. Therefore, the order of these needs can be accommodated to the fullest, one of the key is the arrangement of space. Art of arranging space will also affect the aspects related to the spatial, for example, is a system of structures, utilities, and even comfort. Objectives to be achieved from this design process is to obtain an idea of the design object that is able to accommodate and be a place that can develop the potential of students, especially in terms of interest in talent, so the character and academic kualiatas ITS increasingly formed and stronger.
