Abstract

Pedestrian ways are part of the support system for the comfort of the urban environment. In its design, pedestrian ways must provide a sense of security, comfort, and ease of access to pedestrians so they can be used optimally. Unfortunately, pedestrian ways in big cities are not completely safe and comfortable for pedestrians to access. This is where the design concept of women-friendly pedestrian ways is needed to make pedestrians feel comfortable in carrying out mobility through pedestrian ways, as well as guaranteeing the safety and security of pedestrians. The purpose of this research is to formulate the design concept of pedestrian-friendly pedestrian ways in the Basuki Rahmat Corridor. The research was conducted using a qualitative approach through observation and questionnaires to find out what factors influence the perceptions of pedestrians regarding the safety and comfort of pedestrian ways in the Basuki Rahmat Corridor. The findings show that lighting is the variable that most influences pedestrians' perceptions related to safety and comfort while using the pedestrian ways in the Basuki Rahmat Corridor. In addition, the existence of surveillance cameras or CCTV on the pedestrian ways in the Basuki Rahmat Corridor is also considered necessary by pedestrians to support their sense of security and comfort when using the pedestrian ways. Guidelines are formulated using triangulation which can be used as a reference in designing pedestrian-friendly pedestrian ways in the Basuki Rahmat Corridor, Surabaya.
