Abstract

Warehousing activities consist of various aspects, starting from the process of receiving, putting away, and storing, to order picking. From these various aspects, order picking and put away are warehousing activities that consume 55% of total operational costs. PT. X is an automotive manufacturing company that decided to carry out warehouse automation by implementing AGV (Automated Guided Vehicle) in warehouse activities, especially for put away and order picking processes. By implementing AGV it is expected to minimize travel time to avoid accumulation of goods in the receiving area, and the turnover rate in the warehouse will be faster. It is necessary to determine the number of units and the assignment strategy for AGVs to minimize the required investment costs and prevent deadlocks on a route if too many AGVs are mobile. This study developed a discrete simulation model using ARENA software to determine the number and strategy of AGV assignments taking into account rest hours and the type of product managed. In order to determine the number and appropriate AGV assignment strategy, 2 experimental factors were applied, namely changes in the number of AGV units used and changes in the assignment strategy including dedicated and undedicated. Based on the research results, the recommended number of AGV for companies is 16 units, with 14 units for warehouse operations, and 2 units for reserves, as well as an undedicated assignment strategy. With this scenario, a utility value of 74.22% is obtained which can manage 97,495 boxes per month, with an average waiting time of 0.45 hours per day.
