Abstract

The storage of biodiesel B-50 under controlled conditions plays a crucial role in maintaining its quality and ensuring optimal engine performance. This study investigated the effects of conditioning biodiesel B-50 using silica gel at a humidity level of 30% over an 8-week period. The results showed that this conditioning method had an impact on bacterial growth, reducing it by up to 42%. However, it had less significant effects on the acid value of the biodiesel. Interestingly, the use of silica gel resulted in a significant decrease in the iodin value. In terms of performance, the conditioning process reduced torque degradation by up to 5.31%. Additionally, the power output of the engine showed a decrease of only 0.14% when using conditioned biodiesel B-50. Moreover, the specific fuel oil consumption (SFOC) exhibited a reduction of up to 42%. These findings demonstrate that conditioning biodiesel B-50 with silica gel at a humidity level of 30% effectively preserves its quality and mitigates the decline in engine performance. This research contributes to improving the understanding of the importance of proper storage conditions for biodiesel and provides valuable insights for the biodiesel industry and engine manufacturers alike. Further studies are recommended to explore the long-term effects of this conditioning method on biodiesel quality and engine performance.
