Abstract

The growth of EV sales in Indonesia in 2022 is still deficient, at around 0.02% of total vehicle sales. The high initial investment cost is one of the main reasons. On the other hand, electric vehicles have lower operational costs and potential long-term cost savings compared to conventional cars. A comparison of the total cost of ownership can be provided to assist consumers in making purchasing decisions. Total cost of ownership (TCO) refers to the overall cost associated with an asset during its lifespan. This research aims to analyze the effect of providing total cost of ownership information on consumer preferences for adopting electric vehicles in Indonesia. The study was conducted by distributing questionnaires on consumer preferences for purchasing four-wheeled cars based on the information provided. The data obtained were then processed through several statistical methods, such as descriptive statistics and logistic regression. The results of this study show that providing additional information in the form of incentives, fuel expenses, and total cost of ownership has a positive influence on increasing the probability of consumers who were previously uninterested in adopting electric vehicles to become interested, by 7.7%, 32.7%, and 7.7% respectively, where variables such as age, gender, and knowledge level about electric vehicles have a significant impact on the preference for adopting electric vehicles. The study also provides insights into the incentives preferred by the public and some recommendations regarding other policies to accelerate the transition to electric vehicles.
