Abstract

The application of safety management is needed in a company. In recent years, enterprise safety management has become an increasingly important topic due to the high number of work accidents. To be able to say whether a company's safety is good or not, it is necessary to have a measurement to assess safety performance in a company, namely safety performance. Among the various factors that influence safety performance, this research focuses on safety leadership, safety management, and safety culture. There is a possibility that the interaction between these factors will produce different values in determining safety performance in companies that have high and low power distance in their organizational span of control. As a representative of a company that has high power distance (bureaucracy), this research chooses PT PAL Indonesia. On the other hand, as a representative of companies with low power distance (partner-based), this study chose PT Grab Teknologi Indonesia. The Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) method was chosen in this study as a multivariate analysis method used to describe the simultaneous linear relationship between variables. The results of testing the 7 hypotheses at PT PAL have 2 hypotheses rejected, safety leadership has no significant effect on safety performance and safety management has no significant effect on safety performance with a t-test value > 1.96 and a p-value <0.05. While the results of testing the 7 hypotheses at PT Grab there are 3 hypotheses rejected, safety leadership has no significant effect on safety performance, safety management has no significant effect on safety performance, and safety leadership has no significant effect on safety culture with a t-test value > 1.96 and a value p < 0.05. Based on the PT PAL results, incentives and work safety activities must be increased and evaluated. Based on the results at PT Grab it is necessary to increase salaries, and rewards, and provide tools to reduce accident rates. It is hoped that this research can help determine safety performance in companies with high and low structural power distance.
