Abstract

GHG emission and the rise of environmental problems encourage all field to adapt quickly. One of them is the shipping industry which is responsible for 3% of global CO2 emissions, 14%–15% of global NOx emissions, and 16% of global SOx emissions. In addition, scarcity and sky-high prices of fossil fuels erode profit margins in shipping. This is a challenge for Marine engineers and sailors to reduce this problem. In this research, information will be extracted about battery systems in autonomous container ships which are used as the main energy source to replace fossil fuels. Therefore, this research will be able to help determine the efficiency of electric ships (80 meter Length Overall) to obtain the profit value and operational cost annualy between Electric Autonomous Container Ships and Conventional Fuel-Powered Container Ships (Marine Diesel Oil). As a result, electric ships with a length of under 90 meters have 9% lower operating costs per year compared to using Marine Diesel Oil. In addition, the study address of advantages and disadvantages from a economic, environmental, and social perspective from electric autonomous container vessels is presented
