Abstract

Vaname shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) is the main commodity in the fisheries sector and is a type of shrimp that has many advantages compared to other types of shrimp. In vannamei shrimp farming activities there are various problems faced, one of which is the spread of infectious diseases. Administration of natural antibacterial herbal medicines is an alternative treatment of the use of antibiotics which can cause environmental problems. Mangrove api-api leaves are known to have the potential to increase antibacterial activity so that they can help overcome the problem of bacterial infection in vannamei shrimp. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect (significance) of api-api mangrove leaf extract (Avicennia marina) on the level of survival, as well as the behavior and anatomical morphology of shrimp. The results showed that the administration of api-api mangrove leaf extract (Avicennia marina) in the aquarium had a negative effect on the survival rate of vannamei shrimp because the survival value of the controls (untreated shrimp) was higher than that of the treated shrimp. At concentrations of 1000 ppm and 1500 ppm the survival obtained was 20% and 15% respectively. However, with further tests, the lower extract concentration had a positive effect with the proportion value increasing higher than the control sample. The results of observing the effect of A. marina extract on behavior at a concentration of 1000 ppm was better than a concentration of 1500 ppm. Meanwhile, from the results of observations of anatomical morphology in the control sample, it was better than the 1000 ppm and 1500 ppm concentration treatments.
