Abstract

Reinforced concrete is a material that is often used for buildings. Corrosion of reinforcing steel in reinforced concrete can cause damage to the concrete structure itself, so from an economic perspective it is very detrimental. Therefore, a protection system is needed for the reinforcement against corrosion attacks. One way of protecting corrosion in reinforced concrete is by adding inhibitors. In this research, the effect of inhibitor administration and its method on reinforced concrete corrosion was studied. The specimen used is concrete which has a water-cement ratio (w/c ratio) of 0.5. The concrete is in the form of a solid cylinder measuring 120 mm long and 50.8 mm (2 inch) in diameter. Profiled steel with a diameter of 9.5 mm and a length of 120 mm was chosen as concrete reinforcement. Conditioning is immersing reinforced concrete specimens in 12.5% NaCl solution by providing a current of 5 mA. Two methods of administering inhibitors were used, namely before conditioning and after conditioning for 10 days. Follow-up conditioning was carried out for 60 days. Corrosion monitoring of the reinforcing steel used is half-cell potential and concrete resistivity. Specimens that were given inhibitors in a preventive (initial before corrosion conditioning) and corrective (given after 10 days of conditioning) method had a lower corrosion tendency compared to specimens without inhibitors. The preventive method of administering inhibitors has a lower corrosion tendency compared to the corrective one
