Abstract

SBE is a solid waste material produced from refining vegetable oil which is composed of SiO2 and Al2O3 materials with a percentage of 60-80%. The elements contained in Al2O3 and SiO2 in SBE can attract surface particles so that they can adsorb dyes. Photodegradation is the process of breaking down organic compounds using light as an energy source. In this research, SBE can be activated and used as a photocatalyst to destroy RhB with the help of light. The Fe2O3 synthesis process involves a hydrothermal method, while SBE before composite synthesis is carried out is activated using a pyrolysis method at a temperature of 220 C to obtain more optimal results. This research applies variations in the influence of pH on the Photodegradation process of Rhodamine B with pH 3, 5, 7, 10, and 12. Then the material is analyzed using various material characterizations such as SEM-EDX (Scanning Electron Microscope-Energy Dispersive X-Ray), FTIR (Fourier Transform Infra Red Spectroscopy), XRD (X-Ray Diffraction), BET (Bruner Emmet Teller), and UV-Vis (UV-Visible Spectroscopy), to obtain information regarding structure, functional groups, morphology, surface area, band gap energy, and wavelength. The results of this research in photocatalytic testing with irradiation for 5 hours with Rhodamine B solution at pH 3 for ASBE, Fe2O3, and ASBE/Fe2O3 (C220) composite materials showed that the degradation percentage of Rhodamine B was 89,6%, 56,6%, and 79,8%, respectively. From variations in pH 3, 5, 7, 10, and 12, the results obtained from photocatalytic testing for the degradation of Rhodamine B solution resulted in the highest efficiency, namely at variation pH 3 with a degradation percentage of the ASBE/Fe2O3 (C220) composite, namely with a degradation percentage of 79,8%.
