Abstract

Coral reefs as a source of germplasm biodiversity and support for aquatic ecological functions. The condition of coral reefs in Pasir Putih Situbondo from 2008 to 2022 is in the damaged category, so that management efforts are needed in the form of protection or rehabilitation of the area by identifying diversity known as biodiversity hotspots, namely areas that have high biodiversity (genes, species, ecosystems) with the highest threat as well. Efforts to assess coral reef and fish biodiversity hotspots in areas that have the potential to decrease biodiversity by utilizing Sentinel-2 image data and field surveys (Line Intercept Transect for coral reefs and Underwater Visual Census for fish). The imagery and survey data were interpreted into information maps of coral and fish biodiversity hotspots with the area of living coral (Ha) reserved for conservation areas. The results showed that were 1.026 colonies of 26 genera and 34 species from 14 families of corals with the highest species abundance in Tanjung Pecaron (26 species) and dominated by Porites rus in Teluk Pelita with a total of (293 colonies), and there were 7.356 ind/m2 of 37 genera and 79 species from 14 families of reef fish with the highest species abundance in Tanjung Pecaron (70 species) and dominated by Pterocaesio tesellata in Karang Mayit with a total of (1.179 ind/m2). High biodiversity level at Takat Palapa station with the direction of conservation area protection and medium biodiversity level at Batu Lawang, Teluk Pelita, Karang Mayit, Kembang Sambi, and Tanjung Pecaron stations with the direction of protection and rehabilitation of the area, and the results of live coral area (Ha) of 19.647 Ha with a Sentinel-2 image accuracy of 80,9%.
