Abstract

The use of renewable energy generated by ocean waves is still in its infancy. An oscillating water column (OWC), which has the potential to be developed in Indonesia, is one of the ways that wave energy can be used in the electricity generation process. Due to high manufacturing costs, which prevent OWC power generation from being as affordable as other sources, it is still in the research and laboratory testing stages of development. A good solution for WEC is to attempt to blend with existing coastal structures. The sloping OWC model from the Korea Research Institute of Ships and Ocean Engineering (KRISO) with a scale of 1:16 and a model width of 0.625 m is used in this study to assess the OWC performance in terms of fluctuations in air pressure caused by changes in the angle of the chamber inclination. Wave height and period are provided as the input changes of the wave parameters. The results of this investigation include the air pressure in the chamber, as well as the projected power and efficiency of each change. The study's results show an increase in air pressure as well as an increase in the wave's height and period parameters. Maximum air pressure parameters are produced by changes in 1:1 chamber inclination at low and intermediate waves, and by changes in 1:1,5 chamber inclination at high waves. A 1:1 adjustment in the chamber slope produces the efficiency of the OWC power to maximum wave power ratio.
