Abstract

Routing is the process of delivering data packets from the origin host to the destination host across different networks. To handle internal/intranet network routing in an autonomous system, Interior Routing Protocol (IRP) is used. The routing protocols included are OSPF (Open Shortest Path First) and RIP (Routing Information Protocol). Accuracy in path selection to the destination host greatly determines the QoS (Quality of Service) of a network, especially in real-time applications such as VolP (Voice Over IP) which has recently shown quite significant improvements for both business and educational activities. and long distance communications. In this final project, a network will be built with a PC router that uses the RIP and OSPF protocols, then the VolP application will be run and its performance will be analyzed by comparing the QoS parameters between the two routing protocols. Based on the measurement results from the implementation that has been carried out, the QoS parameters, namely packet loss, throughput, jitter and delay, show that the use of the OSPF routing protocol is still better than the use of the RIP routing protocol. This is because RIP determines the best path based on the smallest hops value, whereas OSPF determines the best path based on metrics. Metric parameters in OSPF include bandwidth, load balance, delay. The addition of TCP and UDP loads causes the jitter value to increase and as a result of the increasing load, packet loss also increases
