Abstract

Indonesia remains the country with the highest maternal mortality rate in Southeast Asia. In 2022, there were 3,572 maternal deaths in Indonesia. East Java is one of the provinces recording the highest number of maternal deaths, ranking second as the province with the highest maternal mortality rate. There were 499 maternal deaths in East Java, approximately 13.9% of the national maternal deaths. In analyzing maternal mortality rates, differences in geographical, economic, and social conditions among regions can cause spatial effects. One spatial regression method that can be utilized is Geographically Weighted Negative Binomial Regression (GWNBR). This makes it interesting to conduct research on the factors influencing the number of maternal deaths in East Java using the GWNBR method in 2022. The selection of the year 2022 is based on the latest data provided by the East Java Provincial Government for analyzing the Number of Maternal Deaths. By using this method, the research can result in mapping districts/cities in East Java based on variables significantly influencing the modeling results with GWNBR. Additionally, mapping of maternal mortality cases in East Java will be conducted using Flexibly Shaped Spatial Scan Statistic. The highest number of maternal mortality cases is in Jember Regency. GWNBR modeling results with adaptive bisquare kernel weighting function yielded the grouping of districts/cities based on significant variables into 4 groups. The detection results of maternal mortality hotspots in East Java indicate the formation of one maternal mortality hotspot cluster, identifying the most vulnerable areas to maternal mortality cases, including Situbondo, Bondowoso, Banyuwangi, Jember, Probolinggo, Sumenep, Pamekasan, and the City of Probolinggo.
