Abstract

Gunung Anyar Aquaculture (PGA) is one of the cultivation areas on the East Coast of Surabaya which is close to residential areas so it has the potential to be polluted due to anthropogenic activities in the area. Air pollution can cause fish to contract parasites, one of which is ectoparasites on the surface of the fish's skin. Ectoparasite infections can be associated with changes in fish scale chromatophores. This study aims to obtain data on the prevalence and intensity of ectoparasites in milkfish in PGA and its relationship with scale chromatophore density. Water and milkfish samples were collected in December and January. Water quality parameters measured include temperature, pH, DO, and salinity. The total fish samples were 42 fish measuring ±35 cm and were taken from 3 PGA locations. Ectoparasite samples were taken from fish skin using the scrapping method, then identified and analyzed. Next, prevalence and intensity calculations were carried out as well as status determination based on Williams & Bunkley-Wiliams. The results of ectoparasite identification found 6 types of ectoparasites, namely Trichodina sp., Ichtyophytirius multifisilis, Amyloodinium ocellatum, Oodium sp., Gyrodactylus sp., and Tyrophagus longior. The results of the prevalence and intensity analysis were that all milkfish samples were detected to be infected with ectoparasites with a prevalence of 100% (very severe infection category) and all milkfish samples had an intensity of "medium" status, namely 13.29; 15.43; 19.57 ind. parasites/fish tails. Based on the type, the highest prevalence and intensity value is the protozoan type Ichtyophytirius multifisilis (P = 86-93%; I = 4.42 – 6.64 ind. parasites/fish), and the results of the correlation coefficient (r) between the intensity of ectoparasites and chromatophores in milkfish are classified as very weak (r = 0.02 to 0.05).
