Abstract

Preliminary Plant Design of Methyl Ester Sulfonate Surfactant from Crude Palm Oil (CPO) is designed with a capacity of 10.000 ton/year. This is carried through a pre-treatment process, conversion of crude palm oil (CPO) to methyl ester and followed by conversion of methyl ester to methyl ester sulfonate. This plant is planned to be operating for 330 days per year. This plant will be built in Kawasan Industri Gresik which is located in Kabupaten Gresik, Jawa Timur. Built in Gresik, this will give and provide an access towards the reagent used taken from PT Petrokimia Gresik. The raw material of Crude Palm Oil (CPO) will be obtained from PT Perkebunan Nusantara XIII based in Kalimantan. In terms of process, it will start from Transesterification Unit, Sulfonation Unit, and lastly the Drying Unit. As a plan, this plant will be built in 2 years with 10 year lasting of factory life. To product 10000 ton/year of MES, capital expenditure (CAPEX) needed is Rp 127.944.049.381 and operating expenditure (OPEX) needed is Rp 340.210.734.581,23. Source of investment funds came from equity for 60% and loan for the other 40%. Based on the economic analysis, the Internal Rate of Return is 33% with a Net Present Value (NPV) positive in Rp 172.193.849.005. The pay-out time needed is 3 years and 2 months with a Break Even Point (BEP) in 28,3%. From the feasibility analysis, concluded that the plant is feasible to establish.
