Abstract

This study examines chronological data on traffic accidents involving motorcyclists in a major Indonesian city, namely Bandung City, to identify potential correlations between various factors. In this study, a coding scheme has been implemented categorizing the factors causing traffic accidents, including objects involved, days, hours, victims, weather, collision position, road conditions, pre-crash, crash, traffic errors, control errors, speed violations, safety violations, traffic violations, and stunts. Data processing using SPSS with Cramer's V test determines the strength of the relationship between these accident-causing factors. A significant relationship is indicated by a significance value of less than 0.05, and a strong relationship is indicated by a Cramer's V value above 0.35. Processing data from 369 motorcycle accidents in Bandung City shows significant and strong relationships between several accident-causing factors: weather with hours (0.367), collision position with objects involved (0.363), traffic error with objects involved (0.401), control error with objects involved (0.522), control error with collision position (0.444), control error with traffic error (0.510), speed violation with pre-crash (0.711), and speed violation with control error (0.684). Policy recommendations and preventive measures are suggested in three stages: preemptive (initial efforts by the police to provide understanding related to traffic rules), preventive (efforts to prevent crimes or undesirable events), and repressive (law enforcement stage).
