Abstract
Penggunaan bahan bakar fosil semakin menipis ketersediannya serta memberikan dampak negatif bagi lingkungan seperti, meningkatnya efek gas rumah kaca. Berdasarkan prediksi International Energy Agency (IEA), Indonesia akan mengalami kegagalan dalam mencapai target net zero emission pada tahun 2050. Berdasarkan catatan International Maritime Organization (IMO), industri maritim menyumbang 45,7% emisi CO2. Oleh karena itu, dibutuhkan bahan bakar yang lebih efisien untuk mengurangi emisi CO2. Salah satu cara untuk mengurangi emisi tersebut adalah dengan menggunakan zat aditif pada bahan bakar. Dalam beberapa tahun terakhir, telah dikembangkan suatu pendekatan untuk konversi asam propionat menjadi bahan kimia yang berharga menghasilkan 3-pentanol yang dapat digunakan sebagai bahan bakar alternatif. Pabrik direncanakan berlokasi di Dumai, Riau, guna memastikan ketersediaan bahan baku yang optimal.Pabrik ini berkapasitas 10.000kL/tahun dan menghasilkan 981 kL setiap hari. Inovasi ini meliputi simulasi proses, analisis neraca massa dan energi, serta konsiderasi spesifikasi alat. Berdasarkan analisis ekonomi, diestimasikan mendapat net income sebesar 261 triliun setelah 2,7 tahun beroperasi dengan BEP sebesar 15%.

The use of fossil fuels is decreasing in availability and has a negative impact on the environment, such as increasing the greenhouse effect. Based on predictions by the International Energy Agency (IEA), Indonesia will fail to achieve its net zero emission target by 2050. Based on International Maritime Organization (IMO) records, the maritime industry contributes 45.7% of CO2 emissions. Therefore, more efficient fuels are needed to reduce CO2 emissions. One way to reduce these emissions is by using additives in the fuel. In recent years, an approach has been developed for the conversion of propionic acid into valuable chemicals to produce 3-pentanol that can be used as an alternative fuel. The plant is planned to be located in Dumai, Riau, to ensure optimal feedstock availability. The plant has a capacity of 10,000kL/year and produces 981 kL daily. This innovation includes process simulation, mass and energy balance analysis, and equipment specification consideration. Based on economic analysis, it is estimated to earn a net income of 261 trillion after 2.7 years of operation with a BEP of 15%.
