Abstract

The consumerist habits of Indonesian society have led to a surge in the number of motor vehicles, which in turn has exacerbated air pollution levels. Alongside economic growth and population expansion, vehicle mobility has intensified. Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS), as a progressive educational institution, bears the responsibility not only for enhancing educational quality but also for environmental sustainability. Consequently, ITS has initiated the development of an environmentally friendly campus program known as the ITS Smart Eco Campus, which includes offering a bicycle rental service as a sustainable and eco-friendly transportation alternative. However, field observations reveal that the existing bicycle rental system still encounters challenges, such as a manual rental process. This research aims to develop a prototype website for bicycle rental that automates and improves the rental system on campus. Design thinking is employed to devise an efficient solution with a focus on human-centered design. The research has produced a high-fidelity prototype of the bicycle rental website, myITS Bike. Following two iterations of usability testing, it was found that myITS Bike is user-friendly and meets user expectations. The implementation of technology within the bicycle rental system enables users to check bike availability, make reservations, report issues, and return bikes more efficiently. With a more effective bicycle rental system in place, it is anticipated that more students will shift from using motor vehicles to bicycles, thus positively impacting the campus environment by reducing emissions and pollution.
