Abstract
ukuran partikel rata-rata menjadi 322.7 nm.

This research aims to study the morphology of boron nitride nanosheets exfoliated from
h-BN using potassium hydroxide solution. This material is developed as one of the
lubricant additives to overcome common wear problems in engines. Potassium hydroxide
solution acts as the main source of calcium ions and hydroxide ions to help the exfoliation
process on hexagonal boron nitride. The material was exfoliated using three different
concentrations of solution, namely 0.5 M; 1.0 M; and 1.5 M. The FE-SEM morphology
results show that at 1.0 M BNNS, the average particle size becomes 322.7 nm. In addition,
the dispersion and stability of BNNS in lubricants were also studied. As an application,
the tribological properties of BNNS as an additive to lubricants were tested on a 200-
hour-running engine, and the Fe and Cr contents as wear metals in the lubricants were
evaluated based on ASTM D585-18 as well as XRF analysis. The results show that the
0.5 wt% BNNS additive in the lubricant, after testing, has a wear metal content below the
maximum limit of 58 ppm for Fe and 3 ppm for Cr, respectively. The average Specific
Fuel Oil Consumption (SFOC) of 0.5 wt% BNNS additive decreased by about 6.36%.
The results show that the formed BNNS is of high quality and does not undergo any
functional changes during the flaking and anti-wear processes.
