Abstract

This research examines the electromagnetic (EM) radiation emissions from an integrated urban rail system under various operational conditions and antenna polarizations. Measurements were taken under four operational conditions: acceleration, deceleration, high speed, and static conditions, using vertical and horizontal antenna polarizations. The analysis of the measurement data showed significant variations in emission levels at various frequencies. In the acceleration condition with vertical polarization, emission levels increased at several frequencies, particularly at 143.67 MHz and 392.23 MHz, with increases reaching 71.16 dBuV/m and 81 dBuV/m. Significant frequency shifts were observed in the deceleration condition, strongly suspected to be caused by the Doppler effect. Overall, most emission levels remained below the EN 50121-2 standard limits, although some frequencies approached or slightly exceeded these limits. Comparison between morning and evening ambient noise showed significant differences at several frequencies, with clear increases in emission levels when the train passed. This indicates that the electromagnetic radiation emissions from the train are higher than ambient noise at certain frequencies, caused by the train's electrical systems. This study emphasizes the importance of monitoring and managing electromagnetic radiation emissions from integrated urban rail systems to ensure compliance with EMC standards and to reduce potential interference with electronic devices around the rail tracks.
